Hong Kong: Rage after Face Mask Ban

After 187 days of protest, thousands flood the streets of Hong Kong to express their outrage against the ban of face masks during protests. The embattled Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam invoked a colonial-era Emergency Regulation Ordinance, bypassing the territory’s independent legislature to put the ban into effect on Friday after midnight.

Lam Said “As a responsible government, we have a duty to use all available means.

“The decision to invoke the ordinance a difficult, but also necessary, one for public interest.”

The protest which began peacefully on the 31st of March, 2019 with the aim to oppose the introduction of the fugitive Offenders amendment bill has escalated to many other demands, and claimed 8 lives so far. The ban hopes to facilitate the true identification of protest offenders and rioters.
