Cardi B Experiences Nigeria’s Epileptic Power Supply, Rendering Bad Remarks

Cardi B touched down Nigeria excited on Friday as she is set to perform at the Eko Hotels and Suites on December 7, 2019, for the first time.

The American female rapper flew in excited, twerking to her remix of DMW boss, Davido’s song “Fall” in a video she posted while on the plane.

In the Video Cardi B was excited coming to Nigeria. She went on to caption the video with a quote announcing her trip to Africa, saying:

“1:03 am drop my KK in NY on my way to Afrriiiiicaaaaaaaaaa baybeeeee!!!!!!”

Her excitement went sour as she checked into her hotel room, covering her nose with a scarf. Furthermore, posting a video online comparing Nigeria to the Dominican Republic, with the epileptic power supply and lousy infrastructure in common.

The video was made while she was taking a short tour around Lagos state, showing the not-so-impressive infrastructure while she stated: “we are in the mother f*cking Nigeria, No light, this sh*t looks like the Dominican Republic.”

Nigerians reacting to the video post on Instagram agreed with her observation with some stating how they pay per month amidst the inconsistent power supply.

Queen Bey’s Eldest Child Receives BET Award at the Age of 7

At a very young age (7), Blue Ivy has already been recognized and praised for her work with her mother on the new “Lion King” soundtrack. Blue Ivy first featured on Beyonce’s heartfelt video for the powerful song “Spirit”. This very same song from Disney’s “The Lion King” has already received a Grammy nomination or two for the upcoming year, 2020.

A few weeks ago, Beyoncé and Jay-Z’s daughter, Blue Ivy, received her very first award. Specifically, the Carter’s eldest child took home The Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award from BET’s Soul Train Awards. Believe it or not, the 7-year-old is actually one of the co-writers of the hit song that is apart of the “Lion King” soundtrack, “Brown Skin Girl”. Blue Ivy shares this award with other artists that collaborated with her on the track such as Nigerian artist, Wizkid, Guyanese artist, SAINt JHN, and no artist other than Beyoncé herself. Blue Ivy both leads and concludes “Brown Skin Girl” with her vocals.

Additionally, “Brown Skin Girl” from Disney’s “The Lion King” was nominated for another award. The song was nominated for the best collaboration at the 2019 BET Soul Train Awards. On the other hand, Chris Brown and Drake’s “No Guidance” swopped in for the title, including other award-winning titles at the 2019 Soul Train Awards, such as the best dance performance, AND the song of the year.

There are no worries, for “Brown Skin Girl” has been getting the recognition it deserves on additional platforms, such as the Billboard Charts. “The Lion King” track at hand has landed on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, earning Blue Ivy Carter her first-career entry on the Hot 100. “Brown Skin Girl” from Beyoncé’s ‘The Lion King: The Gift’ album debuted at No. 76 this past July. The whole album itself had placed as high as No. 2 on the Billboard 200.

Listeners and fans alike all take to “Brown Skin Girl” being that it praises dark-skinned and brown-skinned females for the way they are created. The song is designed to make these types of individuals know their worth – to make young girls and women of color hold their heads up high and embrace their uniqueness, culture, and beauty. The message of the song can be easily distinguished through lyrics such as “There’s complexities in complexion, but your skin, it glow like diamonds…Took everything in life, baby know your worth, I love everything about you from your nappy curls, to every single curve, your body natural…”, and the chorus itself. On the whole, this song is a must-listen for those who need a confidence boost, for those who need to know the value and greatness of ‘black’ women, or/and those who simply want to listen to Blue Ivy’s voice (or any other artist in the song).

Inside America

Top 10 on Billboard Charts: Nov.24 – Nov.30

1.) Circles – Post Malone

Two individuals are tied up in a relationship that goes up and down. Every time they “run away” from one another, they somehow end up going back to one another. For one reason or the other, the individuals are drawn to each other, but apparently, not for all the right reasons. Malone allows his partner make the make the moves “…so I don’t take the blame.”. At the end of the day, Malone’s character knows inside his heart that the relationship has to come to an end once and for all before the relationship turns toxic. The “Better Now” artist premiered “Circles” in New York City during his Bud Light Drive Bar Tour.

As of last Sunday, Post Malone has offcially become a two-time AMA (American Music Award) winner for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album. “Circles” is apart of Malone’s recent award winning album, “Hollywood’s Bleeding”.

2.) Someone You Loved – Lewis Capaldi

Another song based off of fallen love. The character Capaldi portrays is someone who opened up and allowed themselves to be vulnerable, but yet, the partner suddenly “then…pulled the rug.”. At this point, the torn individual feels like he no longer has anyone to turn to for comfort, assurance, or a sense of security. Now, one has to become accustomed to navigating life on their own outside of a relationship. “Someone You Loved” officially marks Lewis Capaldi’s first song to reach the Billboard Top 100 Chart. Capaldi partnered up with the charity organization “Live life, Give Life” with intending to increase awareness for individuals in need of organ donations.

Appearing in the No. 1 spot for quite a few weeks at a time, Capaldi’s “Someone You Loved” has remained on the Billboard 100 list for 28 weeks.

3.) Good as Hell – Lizzo

An empowering song that encourages women not to spend time fretting over a relationship gone bad where “…he don’t love you anymore…”. Lizzo implies that women should not beg to stay in any relationship because at the end of the day, if the individual claims that they do not want you [anymore], it is their loss – life goes on. The music video shows that one of the best lasting remedies to a let-down is feeling good about yourself by looking good, treating yourself, embracing your self-worth and being surrounded by supportive friends. This is another song of Lizzo’s that had originally came out few years ago (2016), but did not gain popularity until after her performance at the 2019 Video Music Awards.

Check out the version of “Good as Hell” where Lizzo collaborates with pop singer/actress, Ariana Grande!

5.) Memories – Maroon 5

As the lead singer of the group, Adam Levine can be heard singing and harmonizing throughout the whole song. In this song, Levine proclaims his thankfulness to his loved ones… the ones who that are within his orbit, and those who, for any reason, are out of it. At one point, “hatred” was felt when he had lost somebody who was dear to him. Now, Levine conveys through this song that he has an open heart – a heart that is capable of going back in time and recalling all of the ‘memories’ him and the loved one had together before they were separated (whether through a bad argument, or through death, is not made clear) in a healthy, positive outlook. From that point going forward, Adam Levine vows to honor the person as long as he lives. On the whole, Maroon 5’s “Memories” song depicts a very humane message. It lets individuals know that it is not only okay, but natural, to go through a cascade of emotions after loosing someone who was once a very important aspect of their life. At the end of the day, what keeps the person alive in one’s soul is the cherishing the memories of that individual.

After releasing the track, Adam Levine took to twitter and stated “This song is for anyone who has ever experienced loss. In other words, this song is for all of us.”

5.) Lose You to Love Me – Selena Gomez

Gomez revisits the events of her past relationship and sings about her rough journey overcoming heartbreak, and betrayal. The crisp video that accompanies the song displayed Selena’s anger, hurt and confusion during that point of her life. Shot by the latest version of the iPhone, the iPhone 11 Pro. This marks Gomez’s first No. 1 track on the Billboard charts.

Selena Gomez headlined the 2019 American Music Awards, where she performed “Lose You to Love Me” for the very first time [followed by it’s follow-up song, “Look At Her Now”].

6.) Senorita – Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello

Ever since they have started dating one another, singer-songwriters Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have been the talk of the town over the past few of months. “Senorita” outlines the blossoming of a romantic relationship. In the sweet yet steamy music video, the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” singers found themselves grossly intrigued by one another from the very moment they laid eyes on each other. As the saying goes, “From there, it was history.”. Both the song and the video that compliments it convey how they cannot resist one another, for no matter how hard either one of them try to deny it, they always find themselves craving and thinking about each other when they are apart. “Senorita” marks the first collaboration that Mendes and Cabello did as a couple. They preformed the song for the first time at the 2019 Video Music Awards.

In addition to performing “Senorita” at the 2019 VMA’s, the couple has also performed the popular song at the 2019 AMA’s. With “Senorita”, Mendes and Cabello won an AMA for the best collaboration of the year.

7.) No Guidance – Chris Brown ft. Drake

Brown fans, Drake fans and “No Guidance” listeners alike would have likely did a double take from the very moment they came across the song. “Why surprised?” some may wonder… . Well, it all goes back to the bloody, physical altercation that transpired between Chris Brown, Drake, and their entourage at a night club in the year 2012. It is alleged that this viral, out-of-control brawl was over singer/songwriter, and now fashion designer, Rihanna.

Rihanna dated Chris Brown 2008-2009. After a serious 2009 domestic violence case between the “Look at Me Now” and “Man Down” singers, the two ended their relationship. By the time 2011 came, Rihanna began dating the Canadian singer/rapper, Drake. At the night club in 2012, it was stated that Chris Brown made the cordial gesture of sending a fine wine over to Drake’s table… only for Drake to reject the gesture, and pass over a note to Brown’s table that grossly flaunted the fact that he was sleeping with Rihanna at the time (despite the fact Brown had already had a new girlfriend). From there, a massive fight between the two broke out that also consisted of the throwing of glass bottles. A lot of people got horrifically injured due to being caught up in the crossfire of the brawl. A few individuals in the fight had to get stitches on the face and head.

The fact that Brown and the Canadian made a song together strongly indicates an olive branch was extended, and that therefore, both have settled their deep-seated issues. While the song itself praises ‘that special women’s’ qualities, the video “depicts a dance battle between Brown and Drake in which they resolve their beef – mirroring the ending of their real-life feud.”. – Billboard

At the 2019 BET’s Soul Train Awards, Chris Brown’s and Drake’s collaboration on “No Guidance” has earned them three honors in one night. “No Guidance” was declared to be the best dance performance of the year, the best collaboration of the year, AND, overall, the song of the year.

8.) Everything I Wanted – Billie Eilish

“Everything I Wanted” has been released only two weeks ago, and has already made its way into the Hot 100 Chart. Elish’s new single went from No. 74 the first week of it’s release, to No. 8 the second week.

The song at hand was co-written and produced by Billie Eilish’s brother, Finneas. In a recent interview, Eilish gives listeners insight on why she created the song. She states that she is one of those individuals who more so often than not, encounters nightmares. Worse than getting nightmares here and there, Billie also suffers from sleep paralysis.

If one is able to make out the picture on the cover of the single, they will notice it is the Golden Gate Bridge in San Fransico, California. Unfourtantely, the Golden Gate Bridge is well-known for being a common suicide site. This iconic landmark corrorlates with Elish’s “Everything I Wanted” being that it is based off of a dream she had where she commited suicide. The song goes on about how people were acting indifferent after witnessing Eilish’s death – even those who she considered to be her friends. At the end of the day, the song converts to Billie expressing gratitude for her brother, Finneas, for she knows that he will always be there for her no matter what troubles she faces, and vice-versa.

Last Sunday, Billie Eilish has clinched onto her first AMA for the best Alternative Rock Artist. On that very same night, Eilish recieved an additional AMA for the New Artist of the Year.

9.) 10,000 Hours – Dan + Shay & Justin Bieber

This song is about lovers embracing one another and all that they have to offer in terms of companionship. The three spouses (Dan, Shay, and Justin Bieber) vow to always be there for their partners. They want to continue knowing them on a deep level that practically no one else knows on them on – “…the good and the bad…”. The trio of singers express their undying will to patient and to keep trying to capture their partner’s hearts each and every day of their lives together.

According to Billboard, the release of the single marks Justin Bieber’s first entry on a Country chart.

10.) Truth Hurts – Lizzo

Not so long ago, “Truth Hurts” spent some time in the spotlight as number 1 on the Billboard 100. This song is about a woman realizing that the man she was with was “holding me back” when she was the one doing all the heavy-lifting in the relationship to ensure his well-being. Given the situation, the woman Lizzo portrays decides that she does not necessarily need to get married to be happy. In fact, Lizzo offers the man up to other girls who have been chasing after him. Nothing or anyone is worth being a “side chick”. It happens that Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” came out in 2017. The song did not get much attention until the track featured on Lizzo’s third studio album “Cuz I Love You”. “Truth Hurts” alone has lasted on the Billboard Top 100 Chart for 29 weeks.

Check out how Lizzo’s “Truth Hurts” has inspired youth!

The 2019 American Music Awards Overview

2019 AMA Program Transcript

  • Selena Gomez kicks off the American Music Awards right away. Gomez initially performs her number one song “Lose you to love me”, and then transitions to singing “Look at her now” – the same order in which the songs were released.

– A lot of people caught onto the fact that Selena was singing off-key during her “Lose You to Love Me” performance. This is more than likely due to the fact that she had suffered from a ‘panic attack’ not so long before coming on stage to headline the AMA’s. In addition, Billboard has released a public statement that revealed that technical difficulties took place during Gomez’s performance. Selena finds herself in time to finish off the performance on a high note.

  • Ciara executes yet another ground breaking performance – as the host this time around. Ciara’s performance is a body pumping anthem. Cici takes it down with her energy and her stellar dance moves alongside a group of adults, and later, a group of talented children. La La Anthony and Ester Dean performed on stage with the “Body Party” singer.
  • The young Billie Eilish wins an AMA for Best Alternative Rock Artist, trumping well-known and loved pop rock groups such as Imagine Dragons, and Panic! at the Disco.

  • Paula Abdul introduces the next performer, Toni Braxton. Abdul mentions that it was exactly 25 years ago where Braxton had won her first music award at the AMA’s (for Adult Contemporary New Artist). She performed one of her greatest songs, “Unbreak My Heart”. Toni Braxton delivered a crisp, natural, passionate performance with her unwavering, powerful voice that shook the whole crowd.

Not so long after her powerhouse performance, Braxton tweets a shoutout to the American Music Awards, exclaiming “Great to be home #AMAs”.

  • New Artist of the Year Award is clinched by the soon-to-be 18-year-old, Billie Eilish. This same adolescent pushed past fellow nominees like Luke Combs, Lil Nas X, Lizzo and Ella Mai for the win. This is surely Billie Ellish’s year. Within minutes, Eilish officially becomes a two-time AMA winner.
  • Hasley performs her newest hit song, “Graveyard”. Despite the title of the song, Hasley’s performance was nothing but colors.
  • Following Hasley’s performace, two-time AMA winner Billie Eilish is given the honors of introducing the next performance of the night: The Green Day performs one of their best songs, “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”.

  • Jonas Brothers perform their hit “Only Human” live from Boston.

  • The AMA’s delves back into Taylor Swifts incredible history as a musical artist. After they acknowledge Swift as the Artist of the Decade and the person to have clinched the most AMA’s ever, Taylor Swift Performs throw-back songs like “Love Story”, followed by “I Knew You Were Trouble”, “Blank Space”, and “Shake it Off”. Taylor ended her great music performance with one of her most recent, loved songs, “Lover”. After the performance, the Artist of the Decade award was finally handed over to Taylor Swift by the living legend, Carole King.

Taylor Swift takes her time to express how important Carole King’s contribution as an artist was to her and her family. Additionally, she expressed her gratitude to her fans, supporters, and her current recording label.

  • Favorite Country Song AMA is awarded to the duo Dan + Shay for “Speechless”.
  • The most prestigious award (as described by Regina King); the Artist of the Year award, is awarded to no one other than the multi-time, record-breaking AMA winner, Taylor Swift.
  • Shania Twain performs and closes out the 2019 American Music Awards. She sings her own version of Post Malone’s “Rockstar”, 21 Pilots’ “Stressed Out”, Taylor Swift’s “Shake it off”, and Drake’s “God’s plan”. She converts to signing her own songs such as “You’re Still the One”, “Any Man of Mine”, “That Don’t Impress Me Much”, and “Man! I Feel Like A Woman”.

All in all, the 2019 American Music Awards was a night to remember in more ways than one. The musical artists all stood out in their own respective ways, whether it was through their wardrobe, their singing, their personalized choreography, and/or their individual speeches. Record-breaking history went down at the Los Angeles Microsoft Theater, for there were a lot of ‘firsts’, such as Ciara being the AMA’s first person to serve as a host, AND a performer in one shot, and Billie Eilish being one of the youngest artists of all time to earn a AMA not once, but TWICE in the same night. More firsts include Toni Braxton stepping foot in the AMA’s once again, since 25 years ago, when she took home her first AMA, followed by Shawn Mendez and Camila Cabello winning their first AMA, and Taylor Swift being declared not only as the “Artist of the Decade”, but the “Artist of the year” concurrently. On an ending note, one of the biggest things that people who tune into the American Music Awards can appreciate about a lot of the performers of the night is the fact that in addition to performing their latest songs (if applicable), they also implemented a few of the great hits that they have released in the past.
